Blouse in antique early 20th-century fabric and crochet inlay

Authentic antique fabric from the early 1900s. A rare fabric, with a dense and textured feel, able to defy time and offer natural thermal insulation superior to modern fibers.

The back is embellished with a cotton crochet doily, entirely handmade, not a superficial application, but a true inlay set into the fabric to create a contrast between the solidity of the hemp and the delicacy of the openwork.
Front closure with natural mother-of-pearl buttons, which add an organic reflection to the chromatic purity of the butter white.

Clean silhouette with hinted kimono sleeves, perfect to be worn as a unique piece or over a silk shirt.

The blouse was born from the discovery of a piece of fabric forgotten in an old trunk.
How can a hundred-year-old fabric speak to a woman of today? The answer was contrast: the strength of hemp and the transparency of the doily that belonged to a trousseau from another era.

The pinnacle of sustainability: we did not produce new fabric; we cared for, washed, and brought to light an excellent raw material that had been forgotten.

Materials: antique hand-woven linen and hemp fabric. Cotton doily.

Technique used: "shuttle" manual loom weaving. The antique fabric was produced on wooden looms where the beat of the reed was impressed by the strength of the artisan. This gave the fabric an irregular density (flaming), which today is the hallmark of authenticity and value of historical deadstock. A highly hygroscopic (absorbs moisture), thermoregulating, and naturally antiseptic fabric was obtained.
"Window" inlay technique. The antique fabric was cut with surgical precision on the back, the edges were finished, and the crochet doily was set and patiently secured stitch by stitch.
The French seam (also known as a closed seam) is the queen of tailoring finishes, especially when working with noble and historical fabrics such as early 20th-century hemp and linen fabric.
